Improved Grassland Management (IGM)
Definition:
Improved Grassland Management (IGM) is an avoided conversion of grasslands and shrublands methodology category in the Verified Carbon Standard. The methodology identifies and accounts carbon stock changes and greenhouse gas emissions in the soil carbon, aboveground woody biomass and below-ground biomass pools, fossil fuel combustion, enteric emissions, biomass burning, and nitrogen fertilizer application. The methodology is broadly applicable to grass-dominated systems where baseline grassland management activities result primarily in livestock production.
