Boa constrictor snake in Costa Rica
Boa constrictors are snakes common in Latin America, although they are also found in the South Pacific and on Madagascar, an island off Africa in the Indian Ocean. Boas can grow up to 16 feet long (5 meters) and feed on birds and small mammals. Boas use constriction to kill their prey. The snake initially bites its prey and then wraps its body around the prey. The snake does not crush the prey, but suffocates it by not allowing it to breath. previous | tour index | next [Image 30 of 52] |
